    Chapter 4: The Plot

I’m so tired this evening when Zemilkom arrive and ask me to accompany him. He said that he finds a secret passage and ask me or… order me to accompany him exploring it. Sigh, day by day he gets more depended on me.

I’m following Zemilkom quickly through passages and stairs; he is a lot faster than me because he is a thunder dragon. We sneak into an abandoned room. Zemilkom push a porcelain statue, showing a hole behind it. We sneak on slowly and aware.

Zemilkom use his thunder tail to lighten our way. There is many strange carvings and unknown language in these walls. We stopped at an un-carved wall and Zemilkom checks it. The wall move when Zemilkom touches it and shows a hidden room.

The castle has many ornamental items that we dragons never create or use. And we now discover something greater than older discoveries of this castle; a big sword that big enough for an adult dragon. My lessons told me that humans from another continent ever landed here and bring weapons like that even not such big. Those humans perish because we don’t like their presence. And I don’t think small critters like them can make this huge thing.

Zemilkom doesn’t interest and we leave that room. We arrive at the end of the passage and Zemilkom open another hidden passage to another part of the castle. We can hear some whispers from a room. We approach the room slowly, with me leading.

“I don’t care how to kill them both but we must be hurry and careful,” it sounded like Orbok, one of the Xenosaur Tol’sha.

“It’s only a matter of time, Orbok. It will be so easy to kill that old timer Kaeverk as long I’m still his closest relative. But I’m still thinking about how to kill his son,” said Kyros I think.

Suddenly Zem ride my back because he wants to listen clearer. I’m losing my balance and fall. Kyros and Orbok see me but they not see Zemilkom.

“Zem, run!” wisp me half squeak. He panicly goes back to our secret passage and closes the door behind.

“You are not belong here!” snarls Kyros.

“He listens our conversations,” add Orbok.

“Little vermin… your life ends here!” growls Kyros.

I’m only can shake and paralysed there in the floor when Kyros preparing his deadly flare.

“Pass my corpse first, Kyros!” a cold sound appears from my back. I move my head and see my father there. “Zemilkom search for you,” said him still staring at Kyros with deadly stare.

Zemilkom must be met my father! Now I’m sure my father knows their plot. Father grabs me and put me in his back. He starts to run but Kyros is faster than him.

An unfair battle starts, Kyros and Orbok against my father. While Kyros attacking my father’s neck, Orbok tries to grab me. My father holds Orbok with his wing claws and Orbok then decide to rip his wings.

After merciless attacks, my father falls to ground. I approach his head and cry. I don’t dare to call him father, afraid of making him angry.

“Never givin’… up Arutema… My… son!” he said out of breath.

A strong red hand grabs me and lifts me up. Kyros is staring me with his vicious purple eyes.

    “Kill him!” snarls Orbok.

“We can’t… Zemilkom is looking for him. We can’t let any commotion…”

“What is your plan?” said Orbok while he scratches the floor.

“We will do our plan faster,” said Kyros calm. “And you, little vermin… Never spread any word about this or I will make sure your family’s painful death!”

No, I don’t want to lose my mother too! I nods quickly and Kyros throw me to the ground. They take my dying father to the secret passage; they don’t know I come out from there.

“What are you looking at? Shooh!” roars Kyros

I turn around and start to walk away. Kyros’ faithful lizardman slaves were cleaning the bloods of the battle. In my way to my room, Zemilkom was happy seeing me survive.

“I’m glad you are save, Aru! I almost call for soldiers!”

“They kill my father. And they will kill my family too if any words of this spreads…”

“Aru… because of me you suffer… I’m feeling sorry for your father. I won’t tell anyone then.”

I am surprised, that’s mean he and his father will die.

“My father will die soon anyway and I will escape from this palace tomorrow,” smile him. I know he is relieved that he has another reason to leave his burdens as a prince. But I feel something odd, I don’t know why.

    “To where?”

“There is a cave in Middle Sands. My nanny will pick us tomorrow, would you like to accompany me? At least to that place?”

    “Sure!”

    “See you tomorrow then, Aru!”

Zemilkom nuzzles me and walks away. I know he wants to bounce all the way but he knows I’m in sorrow. I feel so sad and decide to go to the hidden passage.

No one guard my dying father. He was there near the big sword with so much bloods flow from his wounds.

    “Father!” I run approach him.

“I’m sorry that I never love you…” he takes some hard breath.

“Father… Father, hold on! I will call a shaman!”

“No. Useless… Kyros’ claws contain… deadly Wyvern’s poison. No one… could cure me. Listen, you…must be strong… and free! Free like birds in the air! Dragons are life for nobody’s slave. Daekar erhen!” cries him for the last time.

Silence filled the air. I left that place with grief and pain. I promise to myself… someday I will kill Kyros and Orbok.

    -A life beyond reality-

I wake up in a squeak. The memory of the slaying was so real. Midnight… I absorbed in my thoughts awhile before decide to open the website which that lesbian gave to me.

Otherkin is them that weren’t really humans. Might reincarnation, two spirits in one host, or another conscious, and else theories.

    I am a dragon named Arutema…

With burden and distrust I should admit that I have another life. After I admit it, old memories appear, now I remember everything about my other self.

I continue with my search and find other otherkins, mostly dragons. I’m not alone. I don’t realize time had passed until dawn. I get up from my computer lazily. I open my door and before I start my day, my father grabs my hair and shout curses. He knows I don’t sleep and he thinks I still not have enough punishments.

He beats me hard until I swells and wounded. I can’t go to school and just crying in my room. I close my eyes and hope… there is a better life as Arutema.
